Softer laws on marijuana save millions of dollars
If your city is in an economic crisis, perhaps the solution is to soften the laws that pursue the possession of marijuana. Prosecutors in Philadelphia estimated that saved more than $ 2 million to the city last year with a new program that not a felony possession of up to 30 grams of marijuana.
This means payments save laboratory tests, lawyers, judges, police overtime and other money related to prosecute marijuana smokers.
Additionally it has been released to different employees to concentrate on more important cases, to prosecute real criminals and not people who simply have a passion for plants.
People caught with less than 30 grams pay a fine, receive a three-hour class on drug abuse and maintain a clean criminal record.
The measure implemented in Philadelphia was supported by the same police officers who said they persecute marijuana smokers on the streets took away a lot of time and resources.
